THE NOBEL PRIZE IN PHYSICS 2011
Physics Nobel laureates for the year 2011 are Saul Perlmutter, Brian P. Schmidt and Adam G. Riess. The Prize was awarded "for the discovery of the accelerating expansion of the Universe through observations of distant supernovae".



It is our pleasure to inform you that MARIJA ŠUVELJAK, teacher of mathematics and physics in the primary school Ivan Mestrovic in Zagreb, whose nomination was supported by the Croatian Physical Society, is the winner of Ivan Filipović Award for Lifetime Achivement for 2009, in the field of primary education.


ANNOUNCEMENT to all CPS members
Project Development, selection and conformation of Croatian nomenclature in physics within the frame of program STRUNA ("STRUkovno NAzivlje"), that is coordinated by the Institute for Croatian Language and Linguistics, has been highly rated on the call announced by National Science Foundation, and it has been granted financing in the period from September 1, 2010 to August 31, 2011.


The European Institute of Innovation and Technology has announced a Call for Experts. The aim of the call is to establish a database of independent experts to provide expertise in support of evaluations and of implementation of the EIT and of Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KICs).

European Physical Journal has started the new edition. Journal in question is The European Physical Journal H - Historical Perspectives on Contemporary Physics.

CROATIAN TEAM WINS BRONZE MEDAL
ON THE INTERNATIONAL YOUNG PHYSICISTS' TOURNAMENT




Croatian team has won bronze medal on the 24th Intenational Young Physicists' Tournament, held in Teheran (Iran) from 22 to 31 July 2011.
Congratulations were received from the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports, and form the Office of the President of the Republic of Croatia.



SUCCESS OF THE CROATIAN TEAM
ON 42nd INTERNATIONAL PHYSICS OLYMPIAD




Croatian young physicists were successful on the 42nd Intenational Physics Olympiad held in Bankok (Tailand) from 10 to 18 July 2011.
Bruno Buljan has won bronze medal, Katja Kustura, Antonio Srkalj and Borna Vukadinovic have got approvals, while Karlo Sepetanc has shown very good knowledge.

Physics Nobel laureates for the year 2010 have been announced.


Symposium 125 Years of Communication and Popularization of Science in Croatia, on the occcasion of 125th anniversary of the foundation and activity of the Croatian Society of Natural Sciences, will be held from 9 to 10 December 2010, in Renaissance Hall of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts, in Opaticka 18, Zagreb. The Proposal has been made by working group of MZOS, together with advisors of AZOO: MSc Zeljko Jakopovic, Olgica Martinis, Dijana Garasic, Vesna Milic. Ms Josipa Spoljaric, primary school teacher in Zagreb, also participated in the preparation of the Proposal.

Croatian Physical Society has sent the LETTER to the Minister of Science, Education and Sports, dr. Radovan Fuchs, which expresses CPS opinion about recently accepted regulations of the teaching norm for primary and high school physics teachers.


Croatian Physical Society has sent to the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports its Proposals and Suggestions for improving the Proposal of Regulation of monitoring and evaluation of the educational achievements in primary and high schools.


EPS standpoints about the Relation of Physics to Society
On the meeting 3rd EPS Forum Physics and Society, held from 15 to 16 April in Ratnieki, Latvia, European Physical Society has agreed upon the following STANDPOINTS about the Relation of Physics to Society.
