Croatian Physical Society, the organizer of the 41st International Physics Olympiad (Zagreb, 17 to 25 July 2010) is looking for the person to be employed as the secreatary of the event during the period from December 2009 till September 2010.

CROATIAN TEAM WON BRONZE MEDAL
AT THE INTERNATIONAL YOUNG PHISICISTS' TOURNAMENT

Croatian team has won bronze medal at the International Young Physicsist's Tournament held in Tianjin, China, from 21 to 28 July 209. The teams from 27 countries all over the world participated in the competition, and the members of the Croatian bronze team were:
Petra Vuckovic (Gymnasium Lucijan Vranjanin, Zagreb),
Lora Grbanovic (Gymnasium Bjelovar),
Dino Santl (Technical and Industrial School Cakovec),
Dino Halusek and
Krunoslav Laljek (Electrotechnical School Varazdin).
The Croatian team was lead by Lidia Saric (Gymnasium Bjelovar), Damir Klicek (Electrotechnical School Varazdin) and Kreso Zadro (Faculty of Science, Zagreb; member of the Executive Committee of the Tournament).
The election of the members of the Croatian team and its participation at the Tournament was organized by the Croatian Physica Society.

CROATIAN STUDENTS WON TWO BRONZE MEDALS AT THE INTERNATIONAL PHYSICS OLYMPIAD
Two Croatian students, Veronika Sunko and Petar Mlinaric, won bronze medals, while Ljudevit Palle was awarded special commendation at the 40th International Physics Olympiad that was held in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico from 12 to 19 July 2009. Another two students, Borna Vukadinovic and Vilim Stih successfully participated in the competition. The Croatian team was lead by Kreso Zadro and Nikolina Novosel from the Physics Department of the Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb. The participation of Croatian students at the Olympiad is organized by the Croatian Physical Society with the financial support of the Croatian Ministry of Science, Education and Sports. Next year Croatia will host the 41st Olympiad that will take place from 17 to 25 July 2010 in Zagreb.

on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Mathematical-Physical Journal

will be held on 25 September 2009, at the Institute of Physics, Zagreb.
The Workshop is organized by the Mathematical-Physical Journal and the Croatian Physical Society. Co-organizers are Education and Teacher Training Agency, Institute of Physics, Physics Department of the Faculty of Science and Rudjer Boskovic Institute.


6. Scientific Meeting of the Croatian Physical Society

Croatia will host 24th International Conference of Physics Students - ICPS2009 that will take place in Split from 10 to 18 August, 2009. The ICPS2009 is organized by the Student Section of the Croatian Physical Society.


Spring Workshop for Young Researchers will take place from 9 to 17 May 2009, in Poznan, Adam Mickiewicz University, Poland.

County competitions of Croatian young physicists are currently in progress.
This year, National competition in physics for primary and high school pupils will be held from 3 to 6 May 2008, in Vukovar.

Institute of Physics - Open Day
Institute of Physics in Zagreb opens its door to the visitors on March 27. This year, Open day will focus on "Physics in pop-culture: why it is inevitable". Visitors will be able to take lab tours, attend popular lectures, see interesting experiments and talk with scientists.

Festival of Science will be organized in Osijek, Rijeka, Split, Zadar and Zagreb in the period from 20 to 25 April 2009.
To mark the 200th birth anniversary of Charles Darwin (1809. – 1882.) this year Festival is devoted to evolution.
Since the year 2009 is also International Year of Astronomy, Festival of Science will also appropriately mark the year devoted to astronomy.



Festival of Science and British Council in coopearation with Croatian institutions and under the patronage of the Minister for Science, Education and Sports, organize FameLab, the competition for young people interested to demonstrate and further develop their skills in talking about science.

NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM "WOMEN IN SCIENCE"
National scholarship program for gifted young woman scientists, organized by L'OREAL-a ADRIA d.o.o. and Croatian Committee for UNESCO at the Ministry of Culture continues this year also (deadline: 17 November 2008). The scholarship program is applicable to all candidates which are in the final stage of preparing PhD thesis (up to 35 years of age) in the field of natural sciences.

CROATIAN STUDENTS WON THREE BRONZE MEDALS AT THE INTERNATIONAL PHYSICS OLYMPIAD
Three Croatian students, Veronika Sunko, Petar Mlinaric and Nina Kamcev, won bronze medals at the International Physics Olympiad that was held in Hanoi, Vietnam, from 19 to 29 July, 2009. Another two students, Tena Dubcek and Jaksa Markotic successfully participated in the competition. The Croatian team was lead by Kreso Zadro and Damir Pajic from the Physics Department of the Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb. The participation of Croatian students at the Olympiad is organized by the Croatian Physical Society with the financial support of the Croatian Ministry of Science, Education and Sports. This year Olympiad was 39th in row, and in two years, Croatia should host the 41st Olympiad.

The international workshop Frontiers in Complex Metallic Alloys CMA-Zagreb '08, organized by the European Network of Excellence Complex Metallic Alloys, will be held from 1 to 4 October, 2008, at the Institute of Physics in Zagreb.


The 3rd IUPAP International Conference on Women in Physics will be held in Seoul, Korea, October 8-10 2008.




Summer School for Young Physicists was held from June 22 to June 28 in Mali Losinj. The topic of the School was Physical Aspects of Water.

An ARTICLE has been published in Europhysics News about 21st International Young Physicists Tournament, held this year in Primosten, Croatia.



Croatia has hosted 21st International Young Physicists Tournament that was held in Trogir, 21 - 28 May, 2008. The Tournament was organized by the Croatian Physical Society in cooperation with physical institutions and with the support of the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports of Republic of Croatia.

Announcement of the Canadian Embassy in Zagreb about grants for young physicists and physics teachers for attending Summer courses
Perimeter – Institute for Theoretical Physics of the University of Waterloo grants two-week financial support to young physicists (secondary school pupils) for attending The International Summer School for Young Physicists.
Summer School will be held from July 22 to August 3, 2008, and from August 8 to August 20, 2008.
Deadline for application: March 15, 2008.

Within the framework of "Einstein Plus Teachers" program, financial support is granted to physics teachers to attend one-week event "Workshop on Modern Physics".
Workshop will be held from 2 to 8 July 2008, and from 10 to 16 July 2008.

Rosalind Franklin Fellowship 2007 - 2008
To promote the participation of women in Liberal Arts and Natural Sciences the University of Groningen offers a prestigious fellowship programme, named after Rosalind Franklin, whose X-ray studies of DNA were crucial to solving its structure. Five fellowships are available in the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. The fellowships will be awarded to outstanding women scientists from any of the disciplines mathematics, physics, astronomy, chemistry, biology, pharmacy, environmental studies, computing science and artificial intelligence.

The Organizers of AMPERE NMR SCHOOL invite young scientists and graduate students from the Central and East European countries, interested in theoretical and experimental aspects of various NMR methods applied in nano-science, materials-science and soft-materials, to participate in it next year event.

The school is planned to take place in June 2008 in Poznań and Wierzba, Poland. The deadline for applying is 15th October, 2007.

Fond Unity through Knowledge Fund has recently launched its first program and announced the Calls for Proposals for financing joint research projects of Croatian expatriate scientists and experts with their Croatian colleagues.

The Fund has been created by the Croatian Ministry of Science, Technology and Sports with the aim to use potential and establish cooperation between the Croatian scientific and professional diaspora. The Fund is going to finance collaborative research projects and knowledge-based business activities of expatriates and Croatian researchers, institutions and companies.
